Subject: Creating a desktop8.ndk from desktop6.ndk?
Feedback Type: Question
Product Area: Notes 8 Client
Technical Area: Install
Platform: Windows XP client
Release: All
Reproducible: -Reproducibility-

In previous versions if you did a clean install of Lotus Notes, shut it down, renamed the existing desktop file and copied the previous version (ie. ver,6 and ver 7) when the client was restarted it would see the old desktop file and convert and build a new desktop file retaining the different icons that were there.

After doing a clean install of ND8.5.2 Basic, renaming the new desktop8.ndk, and copying in an ND7 desktop6.ndk file, upon restart rather than rebuilding the desktop8.ndk file, an error is given indicated that the file either doesn't exist or is corrupt and would one like to create a new one. Because I have the original desktop8.ndk file I say no and then rename it back to the original name.

We have this scenario occur when we are building a new system for a user and we need them to send us their ID file, names.nsf and desktop6.ndk files for the new system. We are in the beginning stages of our ugprade to ND8.5.2 and so the clients will happen in a few months, but I need to determine what we're doing incorrectly so we can avoid having to rebuild users workspace in the client. (And before you sing the virtues of the client and the layout etc, our users want the workspace.)

Thanks,
Pam
